Fatty Aunt’s Mushroom Yam Cake is one of the signature selections at Fatty Aunt Yong Tau Foo. But behind this special creation is a little story that began many years ago.
The inspiration actually came from one of Fatty Aunt’s old neighbours, who used to prepare a mushroom and yam dish for festive occasions. One day, she shared some with Fatty Aunt — and Fatty Aunt was amazed by how wonderfully yam and mushrooms complemented each other!
Inspired by that unforgettable combination, Fatty Aunt’s daughter-in-law, who has always had a passion for food, began experimenting with different ingredients and recipes. After countless attempts and refinements, she finally created our very own unique Fatty Aunt Mushroom Yam Cake.
Today, it has become one of our signature Yong Tau Foo selections. Whether you enjoy it with Fatty Aunt’s traditional sweet chilli sauce or pair it with our rich signature laksa, the combination creates a distinctive flavour that you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else!

Fatty Aunt’s grandchildren discovered another delicious way to enjoy it! They simply place their favourite cheese on top of the Mushroom Yam Cake and pop it into the oven. Once the cheese melts and turns beautifully fragrant, out comes a piping-hot Cheesy Mushroom Yam Cake! 🧀😋
